Five Guidelines to Guest Blogging
Five Guidelines to Guest Blogging for a Novice…
As a new blogger you will want to start thinking about increasing your traffic and starting to monetize your website. This guide is setout to ensure that if you want to go into guest blogging that you do it at the right time to benefit you and your blog as guest blogging for a novice blogger should be beneficial to both parties.
Why Guest Blog?
If your guest blogging on the right blog your post can provide enormous streams of traffic. Not to mention that this traffic is targetted so your more than likely to gain a few extra subscribers, comments and what will eventually become loyal users. Posting about a topic on someone else’s blog that your blog is related to ensures that this new stream of traffic has purpose and is genuinely interested in reading your other content.
And now the Guidelines;
- When guest blogging make sure that you are blogging on a website that has a substantially lower Alexa rank than your own and is popular in your chosen niche.
The purpose of guest blogging for a novice blogger is to increase your traffic, gain backlinks and create relationships with fellow bloggers and readers. To achieve this you need to ensure that the blog you are going to guest post on is more popular than your own so that it benefits both parties.
- Create relative high quality content that will invite the user to read your own blog
Creating content is not always easy but with the vast amount of resources available on the internet topic searching is no longer a hassle plus starting out im sure your head is absolutely crammed with ideas on what to write about. Just make sure that it relates to the blog your guest posting on and your own and making sure that the content you post is quite lengthy and contains some questions about the articles content which will invite the user to check out other posts on your own blog.
- Do not guest blog until you have content!
The first mistake i made was jumping into guest blogging too fast. Three days after my blog was launched i wrote an article on a high traffic industry leading blog only to loose all benefits that it would of brought to my blog (i’ll write an informative post about this soon.) It’s not something i would like to see repeated especially after you’ve created such great content for the guest post. So please atleast wait until your blog has around 20-30 posts and you are going strong with atleast one post per day. If you don’t the users will come but are unlikely to return.
- Ensure that your guest blog post has your name stamped on it along with a link to your website before the article
This is something that will need to be negotiated with the owner of the blog inwhich your guest blogging on but to ensure that you recieve credit plus traffic then it’s important to be linked and your name mentioned at the start of the post, otherwise the post is going to be overlooked and a visitor may assume it was written by the blog owner.
Here is an example of how it should be done from problogger.net

You will notice the acknowledgement of the guestblogger at the top of the page under the title, after the acknowledgement the content starts, pretty basic but an area on a post that is worth fighting for.
And finally,
- Prepare to sacrifice content for guest blogging
We are not going to discuss wether giving up content is worth a guestblogging post on another website, thats a whole other discussion on it’s own. Rather we are focusing on giving up content to increase our userbase as, when we guest blog the content created is no longer suitable for your own blog use due to duplicate content issues with search engines. This one benefits the guest blog owner while the blog post acknowledgement benefits you.
To conclude it’s important for a new blogger to ensure that they have enough quality content to back up their blog for the expected users coming through and to ensure that the quality of the post they are using reflects your blogs ideals.
