Increase RSS Feedburner Subscriptions Using Firefox Live BookMarking
Tip: Improve RSS Feedburner Subscriptions
With Blog Me Famous only in it’s infancy, like any other blogger i check my stats daily and more often than not several times within the day. What i noticed was that i was getting alot of clicks and pageviews on my feedburner subscription page (My blog feeds) but a certain number of them where viewing but not subscribing in a reader.
What if those users did not use a rss feed reader?
Within the first couple of days after Blog Me Famous’s launch i setup my blog RSS feeds to go through feedburner so i could track every person that subscribed not only in a reader but also via FireFox’s Live Bookmarking feature. However checking my stats i noticed that a very small number had subscribed using the Bookmarking feature that was until i introduced a new button, simple but proving extremely effective.
Taking a look at my feedburner page you can see;

Here a user is presented by a feeder landing page with various RSS feed readers. To use the Firefox Bookmarking Service a user has to choose ‘View Feed XML’ and then click subscribe, coming to this page as a new webuser or not knowing how to subscribe via Firefox you would immediately close the page.
To combat this, on the right side of my blog i produced a text line named, ‘Subscribe in firefox bookmarks‘

Since introducing this direct text link to my XML feed i’ve increased my subscription numbers through Firefox Live Bookmarking. I’m not going to reveal numbers but visitors numbers through firefox are improving everyday. So why not try it out and report back the results.
If you liked this post, why not subscribe to my rss feed here.

I am not very convinced about the effectiveness of RSS feeds….how much do they increase your readership base? No need to give numbers just a %
Thanks!

Great info, i will certainly be looking at putting this on my blog.
goheadshot, I don’t think you should look at RSS as an additional way to increase your readership. It should be hand in hand with your blog - you can’t have one without the other!

They give the option to subscribe in a reader so they can view your content and headlines without actually visiting the Blog. I guess it saves people time and they can view your information at the click of a button.
Introducing the firefox live text has increased numbers because over half the people here use firefox and if they don’t know what a reader is (lets face it not everyone knows about rss readers or feeds.) They will certainly know about firefox and will go straight to that link.
