BumpZee - Hacked or broken?

July 28th, 2007 at

Today while surfing the internet i came across the BumpZee widget on one of my favourite blogs.  But i was shocked to see that the widget was displaying the owners details - these details include website stats which i know i would not want my visitors seeing.

For those of you that don’t know, BumpZee is a SocialNetwork for bloggers - similar to BlogCatalogue and MyBlogLot, which allows users to create and browse communities.  The site also offers stats to blog owners and allows bloggers to put a BumpZee widget on your site showing the latest blog visitors and stories.

Here’s a screen capture i took while browsing one of the top affiliate marketers blogs,

Bumpzee broken

As you can see the Stats section is visible to everyone.  This is not my blog but i can view the website stats i wonder how BumpZee is going to regain the confidence of it’s users after this stunt.  Ofcourse if the site was hacked then let’s hope they improve security measures.  At the moment the BumpZee website looks like;

 Has Bumpzee been hacked

Let’s hope they can sort of the problems and fast.

    yeah, that was a bit of a mess this morning. It wasn’t hacked. The database became unresponsive. It was like that for three hours or so, thankfully at the least busy time of the week.

    You actually didn’t see anybody’s real stats. The stats are read from the database, which was down. What you were seeing was some dummy stats that are hidden in the widget for testing purposes that somehow surfaced during this problem.

    Thanks for clearing that up. Yeh it was in the morning when most people are at their jobs.

    We appreciate the followup. Chris.
